The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has released three notices of intent to publish Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) that will invite applications for a new initiative, the HIV/Cervical Cancer Prevention CASCADE Clinical Trials Network.
The CASCADE network will seek to conduct pragmatic clinical trials evaluating the effectiveness of clinically proven interventions to optimize the cervical cancer screening, management, and pre-cancer treatment cascade for women living with HIV (WLWH). CASCADE network trials will be conducted in intended-use environments in resource-constrained settings in low and middle-income countries and in regions with health disparities in the United States, and will have four major scientific focus areas:
- increasing screening uptake,
- improving management of screen positives,
- facilitating pre-cancer treatment access, and
- optimizing pre-cancer treatment for cervical cancer prevention in WLWH.
Further information can be found on the CASCADE page on the NCI website.
The three notices of intent provide early visibility of this initiative to encourage development of partnerships to prepare responsive applications for the three components of ‘CASCADE’:
- NOT-CA-21-112: Notice of Intent to Publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement for Coordinating Center for the HIV/Cervical Cancer Prevention 'CASCADE' Clinical Trials Network (U24 Clinical Trial Required)
- NOT-CA-21-113: Notice of Intent to Publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement for Research Bases for the HIV/Cervical Cancer Prevention 'CASCADE' Clinical Trials Network (UG1 Clinical Trial Required)
- NOT-CA-21-114: Notice of Intent to Publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement for Clinical Sites for the HIV/Cervical Cancer Prevention 'CASCADE' Clinical Trials Network (UG1 Clinical Trial Required)
The FOAs are expected to be published October 15, 2021, with an expected application due date of December 28, 2021. The earliest estimated award/start date is August 01, 2022.
Details of a planned pre-application webinar will be announced after the publication of the FOAs.
